This year, NC decided to eliminate the English I End-of-Course (EOC) test, combining it with the writing test that happens at the end of English II. Though you won't have a State EOC, students in English I, III, and IV will have a common Measure of Student Learning (MSL). These tests (which are not multiple choice tests) will be used to measure how much you've learned over the semester, whether or not you're ready to move on to English II, and my effectiveness as a teacher.
I found cruising the NCDPI website for information about these tests really difficult, and more than a few of you have asked me for info regarding what this test will look like. Though we will be looking at it in class (again), I wanted to make sure to post the info here for your reading enjoyment. You may want to also look at some of the test items that have been released for your review. Specifically, check out the Constructed Response for High School Language Arts.
